MiniDP to HDMI adaptor bad quality picture. MiniDP to DVI-D to HDMI perfect?

I am currently using my 2010 model macbook pro connected to a TEAC 23.6" LCD TV.

I connect to the screen using a apple mini displayport to DVI adaptor, which is then plugged into a DVI to HDMI adaptor with a HDMI cable to TV

This works in 1080p and the picture is perfect. text is easy to read and graphics are smooth.

DVI doesnt support sound, so i recently bought a mini display port to HDMI adaptor from Macfixit.

The picture quality through this adaptor is horrible, and i cant find any settings on the TV or in OSX to make it any better D:

Is it just a bad quality adaptor that i bought or is there some way to fix this?
