i have a mac mini early 2009 and i want to install 8 gb ram but it doesn,t work.

it says on the OWC site that i have to install the EFI firmware 2.1 update but it won,t let me,it says(the mac mini)that i don,t need this update.

my kernel is 32bit but my EFI is 64 bit,how can i install 64 bit so i can use the 8GB cause with 32 bit i can,t use more than 4gb ram

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.6.7), 4 gb ram Runcore ssd 64gb

Check your computer's EFI Boot ROM version;

1. From the Apple () menu, choose About This Mac

2. Click More Info Under Contents

3. Select Hardware

If your Mac mini's Boot ROM version is the following or more recent, then you do not need the update to use 8 GB of RAM;

Boot ROM Version: MM31.0081.B06

Thanks for that.. I checked on my boot ROM version for mac mini and it seems that mine is already updated. I guess I have a dodgy stick of RAM, I went to change over, but stupidly I managed to muddle them up again, lol.. I will take apart again and triple check the slots. Thank you

When you next take the top off to swap or replace the RAM: leave the top off for a few days and run it like that until you're happy. It is not neccesary to replace the top to run your mini.

Saves the stress of the "cracking it open" too often!
