I am having issues ever since I downloaded itunes. Is there a way to shut it off when not using it???

What computer and operating system are you using?
Since you posted on the Apple forum and didn't state what you are using, I assumed it was a Mac and you would know that the Command keys are located at either end of the space bar.

Select iTunes to bring it to the front and then depress command + Q.

Same way you quit any application
in iTunes, go to the menu bar, select File > Exit or press Ctrl and Q on the keyboard.
From the iTunes menu bar (top left in your screen) click iTunes then scroll down and click Quit iTunes. That should do it.
