Why does my ipad say I have no sim card?

My ipad insists it has no sim card, but there is one in it. I had this checked at the Apple store a month or so ago, and the tech person took out the sim card, took it in the back, came back out, wiped it off, used some air to blow out the slot, replaced it, and it began to work. A week or two later, it again began to insist that there was no sim card. I am not amused.

iPad, iOS 4.3

Hello, I had the same problem (repeatedly) until I did this, it works!

Remove sim, very very lightly rub the sim card's contacts (the metallic parts) with a standard pencil eraser. I suspect its just a micro-residue from the manufacturing process interfering with complete contact.
