anyone with e-sata expresscard 34 problem in new macbook pro 17" ?

I've a smilar problem. Muy e-sata expresscard 34 has been working for years in my MPB 17".

Now I got the logic board replaced because the graphics failure ...

After that, when I insert the expresscard, doesn't longer work.

It seems like not "enough" power to turn it on ...

Have you succeeded getting it working ?

To my knowledge, the last 17" MBP was a late 2011. There have been none since then.

It has been my experience that the eSATA card should be installed prior to booting the MBP.

I have had problems with some of the eSATA connection cables, but I can always get one that works.

Are you certain that the external enclosure is functional?

Yes it is an early 2011 MBP.

Being an express card, must accept being plugged which the laptop already on. Anyway, I tried that also.

It is clear is a power problem, because I got the message "USB ports disabled: disconnect those with too much power consumption to enable them again".

I used for several years an eSATA external HDD for backups, the speed was incredible, so was very useful. I was using CCC.

Could it not be a faulty express card?

I have 4 17" MBPs. 2006, 2010 and two late 2011 models. All express card slots are functional.

Well, it was working before the logic board change ... and of course, tried in the 17" MBP from a neighbour, same configuration that mine. It works in that one.

That suggests that the internal connection is faulty. An appointment at an Apple store genius bar is your best option. Have them test it. The evaluation will be FREE.
