May 5, 2011 8:45 AM in response to inthepinkgoldensby louie,This kind of problem is somewhat nebulous. These optical drives do sometimes go bad and need replacing. However, the usual first advice is to just be sure the discs are clean and not scratched, and the second is to try an optical disc drive lens cleaner (make sure it is compatible with slot-load drives). Debris and lint often collects inside the drive, causing intermittent problems. Some users report that merely pushing something like a business card in and out of the slot a few times clears their lint out.
