how do i scale the bass down an octave in garageband for ipad? I'm using a korg micro-sampler to usb into my ipad and play bass... works great only i need it down 1 octave lower. thanks

Hi,

how do i change the octave on the upright bass sample in garageband? Im using a Korg micro-sampler to "MIDI" (USB actually) into my ipad version of garageband - and it is awesome - all except for that fact that I need the bass sample down 1 octave - in the keyboard samples - I believe you can move the octave up or down - but I cannot figure out how to change the upright bass sample .... my keyboard has about 37 notes - and the lowest note currently when I USB into garageband is too high - by one octave. Thanks.. (my other dilemma is trying to capture the fabulous bass sample from garageband into my Korg micro-sampler - which is a whole nuther kettle of fish) .....

Matt, thanks for input - thats the first thing i looled for was a way to change tje octave on the korg microsampler - all the controls seem to apply internally to the korg samples - not the external midi device- even the global - i have spent several hours with the korg - so failing that - i went towards trying to get garageband to do it. I know that the garageband keyboards are scalable to different octaves - i have other midi keyboards but for different reasons the ipad version of garageband doesnt like them (one of them takes too much power) etc. I put in a question at the developer site - see if they can answer the question - What i havent done so far is plug in same korg keyboard and see if i can play the piano in garageband in different octaves.

Hangtime, thanks man - appreciatee that - but not my main concern - and is odd error message since that particular keyboard is powered - so the USB shouldnt be trying to get power from the ipad - that keyboard is way too big for what im doing - (im actually velcroing my korg microsampler to the top of my NORD ELECTRO3 - and using it to kick bass) the garageband sample is so good - i actually wish i could figure out the Korg - to get that sample in it - no easy task - have watched dozens of videos - they're all about hip-hop - loops etc - no one is doing what im doing - as far as i can find....

Tim,

Maybe before you give up on the Korg, you might want to give their own tech help a call. Perhaps it just doesn't do this, but maybe there's a control somewhere, someplace, hidden within that will?

Another thought - perhaps you might be able to use a 3rd party MIDI mapper to lower the notes by an octave. It's an easy piece of math to subtract an octave from the MIDI data leaving the keyboard before it hits GB.

Here's a software one I just googled. Don't know if it will work, there are likely others out there that may if this doesn't:

.. and a hardware mapper I also dredged up in the google:

Matt,

Thanks - u know - burried on one of my hard drives or my old laptop is a Midi anylizer that i downloaded years ago - cause i waa using my old VK-7 keyboard to control the native instruments B-4 program - and it enabled me to see and realize that the VK-7 was so old it was only transmitting some generic hex code message from all tje buttons - what did work at that time was the continuous controllers - drawbars - so thanks - i will xonsider that 3rd party MIDI mapper - I will try Korg - (not much hope there - most of these manufacturers are unreaxhable these days - and the forums take forever-- to figure anything out - i WILL figure this out - its too good not to!!!!
