MacBookProEFIUpdate 1.7 Not Installing

Hello,

System Profiler states that my current SMC (EFI) is 1.47f2. After I downloaded the correct firmware update from Apple, the installer package states that my Mac 'does not need this update'. 😕 Can anyone provide assistance? Thank you.

A little history:

I have an MBP 13 (June 2009) model that I wish to upgrade the firmware on to take advantage of a SATA 3Gb/s hard drive (WD Scorpio 320GB). I read that the EFI 1.7 update would allow drives to use transfer rates greater than the 1.5Gb/s supported by the EFI 1.4 that was shipped with the Mac.

If the firmware did not show up in Software Update, your model MBP does not need it. Reason why you got the " does not need this update" message. You cannot force irmware updates on a model that does not need it.

Thank you for your response.

Yes, my model (MacBookPro5,5) was checked against the chart, and I followed the instructions to identify the SMC (EFI) in System Profiler.

I have AppleCare, so that appears to be my next step.
