How Do I Use a .IMG on My Mac?

I have several .img files that I'm trying to open. I know I have to burn them to DVD's, but when I double click on them I get a warning saying the disk image could not be opened because it's not recognized. I appreciate any help.

Change the name of the file to .iso, rather than .img and it will work. Finder can mount them and Toast or other disc burning apps should be able to burn them.

An .img file is an image. Are you sure you don't mean a disk image .dmg file? Please clarify.
