Need Canon LBP 3050 Driver Software to Mac

Good day to everybody,

Can anybody help me to fix my Canon LBP 3050 printer? It was working with the iMac Os 10.5 version perfectly since I am upgrading my iMac frequently the Printer stop working properly. Currently my IMac is updated to OsX.10.6.7.

I have downloaded the “CAPT Printer Driver Ver.3.31 for Mac OS X 10.4/10.5/10.6” Driver Software from the Canon website for Mac.

When I select the print & Fax from the System Preferences, then clicked the + to add the printer, then clicked on More Printers and select Canon USB (CUPS CAPT) for a USB connected printer. there isn't any printers in the list. Therefore,I was not able to click the Add button. The button appeared grey in colour and I was allowed to click Cancel only.

The printer is working perfectly with the Microsoft Vista version. This is regarded to the driver software issue. Its not working with Mac only.

I tried to work with Canon “CAPT Printer Driver Ver.2.40 for Mac OS X 10.3/10.4” Driver Software it failed too.

Its a great help if anybody kindly guide me to rule out this issue.

Thank you.

The procedure you are using to add the CAPT printer is correct. You don't use the Default Add Printer view, you have to select More Printers then Canon USB (CUPS CAPT).

But since you have mentioned Vista working to the printer, then just for the record you cannot share this printer from Vista to the Mac. The CAPT driver cannot be used when the printer is shared from Windows.

So if the LBP is connected directly to the iMac via USB and it still does not appear in the Canon USB (CUPS CAPT) view then I would suggest the following;

  1. Check the USB cable between the LBP and the Mac. If this is the same USB cable that you used between the printer and Vista then it should be okay.
  2. Try another USB port on the iMac. And don't have any devices between the printer and the iMac, such as a USB hub.
  3. Turn off the printer before connecting it to the iMac via USB. Once connected then turn the printer on and try to add the printer.
  4. If the printer still fails to appear in the Canon USB (CUPS CAPT) view then open System Profiler and under the Hardware list select the USB entry. In the right pane, all of the USB connections on the iMac will be shown and the LBP should be showing under one of these connections. If you don't see the LBP then this would explain why the printer is not showing in Canon USB (CUPS CAPT). If this is the case then try restarting the iMac and also try a different USB cable.
