how do i fix my keyboard its typing symbols

Could you tell us in more detail what it is doing? When you type the keys asdfg, do you get åß∂ƒ©? That could indicate the Alt key is stuck down (i.e. bad keyboard). Other things could indicate your keyboard layout preferences have been set wrong. Is it all apps including TextEdit? Type it here if you can. It is hard to help unless we can see what you are seeing.

I bought an iMac yesterday, and this morning it's doing the same thing. I've been asked to take it back to the store tomorrow, which is such a pain.

I have also found that in safari it will download the page instead of opening it, unless I open in a new window. It does the same thing in all apps, but only after you've been typing a few sentences, which all appear ok. I have tried disabling the alt key, which did not work, and checked languages etc, and all set to English....

Any thoughts? Thankfully my macbook is ok, otherwise I'd be really stuck!! 🙂

What do you mean by that exactly? What appears on the screen when you type asdfg?

would love to be able to copy and paste, but I'll try and replicate it as best I can from my macbook!

a - is capital A with small circle over it

b is German kind of B sign (ss)

d is kind of like a greek small d

f is like f but not normal and kind of italic

g is the copyright symbol

Any help?

Also on startup I noticed that I had to click on an arrow under the Mac HD symbol, then had login screen. Not had that before....

a was capital as it was at beginning of sentence.... so yes, looking back to your first post, it was exactly as you said. And it is the same in TextEdit 😐
