Im having such a slow internet problem on my iMac. BTW my PC is much faster so its nothing to do with my internet provider. Can anyone tell me whats the best solution to fix this and have the full experience of my internet again. Its been like this for almost a week and its starting to **** me off.

How is your iMac connecting to your LAN? What brand and model of router do you have?
If it's connecting wirelessly, hold down an "option" key while you pull down the AirPort menu bar icon. In the list that drops down, what value do you see for "RSSI"?
I;m having the same problem after upgrading last week to snow leopard and updating to 10.6.8.
i;m using an airport extreme and my RSSI is -65.
this seems to be a pretty common problem, eh? i;ve tried some other solutions but to no avail. Thanks so much for any help!!!

That's a fairly low value. See the second message of this thread for advice on how to evaluate signal levels. There are various things you could try involving changing the positions of your networking equipment that might improve the signal. One of the easiest if raising your Wi-Fi base station and assuring that there's nothing over it.
I had slow internet AND slow opening of files on my hard drive. I turned airport off. When I turned airport back on, speeds returned to normal.
