IOS 4.3.3 battery life has been significantly reduced

After installing the update IOS 4.3.3 the battery life has been significantly reduced. I currently own and iPhone 4. This was not an issue prior to the update; battery life was great. Have any solutions been found? Has anyone else found this to be an issue?

iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.2

Do a hard reset on your phone - hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together until you see the Apple logo. Let go and let the phone restart.

I even tried closing out apps by going to the editing apps in the app switcher. I wonder if Apple has purposely reduced the battery life on the IPhones because they want everyone to buy the IPhone 5. My IPod Touch 4th generation 64gb gets far better battery life and internet speed. There are still bugs Apple hasn't even fixed, such as the browser zooming to the end of the web page without me directing it there. And, what's up with the fact that you can't directly transfer content between the IPhones to IPods or Ipads, and what is up with Apple not allowing you to select all the items in your libraries on these devices and copying them using the PC? It is as if they are telling us that we can't be trusted. If that's the case, why grant licenses for us to use these products? I love Apple and its products, but they need to get it together. Also, I forgot the password to my Mobile Me account, and I have no way of retrieving it or setting up a new one.

(You get there by clicking the 'I forgot' link at the bottom of me.com. :-) They you answer questions, or have a reset sent to your other email address, etc.

As per why Apple won't let you transfer music from device to device; in the old days (in my opinion) it was a function of copyrighting. You can't really control what happens to the data when it goes somewhere else; so they simply made it sync between the computer and the iDevice. It might still be true, as you have to allow someone to play purchased content on their computer, and you only have so many computers which you can activate at any given time (5 I think). I would blame the Recording industry for that one.

I severely doubt that Apple intentionally hurt the battery life. Making inferior products is not a good way to encourage growth. Apple seeks for you to love them- and pass on that love to others. True, like all things- you can't please everyone all the time; but they aren't out to hamstring anyone. That is just plain paranoia. (Also, a logical fallacy 'post hoc ergo propter hoc' IMO) I would chalk this one to a rush job ordered from on-high not being fully tested to fix the 'location bug' that hit the news.

This is a puzzler - there seem to be as many fixes as there are iPhones!

I tried many of the tips here including restoring and eventualy fixed it by disabling Bluetooth for a day! A bit inconvenient when using hands-free of course but hey. I have 3 things paired, car kit, headset & headphones.

Left BT off for a day and drain was very slow - down to ~97% in a morning!!!!

I have now turned it back on and currently at 96% after 3 hours which I think is good as I have been doing emails and Facebooking over 3G.

Not saying this will work for everyone but give it a go.

i had a similar experience by turning off (and leaving off) location services. I agree, so many solutions and they work differently for different people. It would seem only Apple will solve this issue fully.

I have to say that as a business user, Apple's (and all the other manufacturers) obsession with 'thinner, lighter' is very irriating - 2mm thicker/20g heavier with double the battery life would be a vast improvement!!

Hi GregTB,

If I were to:

Back Up ---> Restore ---> Set Up iPhone as New,

Can I then restore to my previous Back Up (in first step) after I Set Up iPhone as New?

Cuz if i read it correctly, I'll have to copy my Back Up (via the directory given in your Apple Support URL) and then replace it and restore after I Set Up iPhone as New.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you.

If I setup the iPhone as new, is there no way of backing up my SMSs, contacts, game settings and such?

I have the same problem, by the way. Tried every trick in the book and my battery has today drained 20% in less than 10 hours doing nothing but checking the clock now and then. Absolutely scandalous, and not a word from Apple to help us with it. I'm starting to regret buying this phone when I can't even revert to a previous version of the OS.

Edit: One strange thing I noticed was that my "Call Time" during today was nearly identical to my "Usage" time. Why is it logging that I've called for 8:45 hours out of the 9 hours I've had the phone turned on, when I haven't made a single call?

Hard reset might be the solution, however, that's provided you switch off the push of email and other notification... 🙂 that means it is not the solution. Even if it works, once you switched back the push email notification and location and etc., after you connect to itunes and synchronize your iphone. The battery will drain quickly again. (That happen to me)

Here is what work for me (old trick that we might all forgot): turn on the airplane mode and turn it off, your battery draining issue should disappear!

Same problem here. After reading the threads now I'm certain it must be a software issue, right after I updated my 3GS to OS 4.3.3 I noticed a significant shortage of battery life, at first I thought it was because of certain configurations that came with the upgrade but all settings in my phone are exactly the same as before the upgrade and there's no doubt the battery started to drain from one day to the next.

How to make our voices heard for an urgent fix?
