IOS 4.3.3 battery life has been significantly reduced

After installing the update IOS 4.3.3 the battery life has been significantly reduced. I currently own and iPhone 4. This was not an issue prior to the update; battery life was great. Have any solutions been found? Has anyone else found this to be an issue?

iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.2

Do a hard reset on your phone - hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together until you see the Apple logo. Let go and let the phone restart.

Think this is ridiculous that we have to turn off all the features! I got an iphone cos I wanted all these features. I might as well have some old Nokia basic handset to just text and call on if I'm expected to turn off all the features to get an extra hour of battery life. Come on Apple pull your fingers out! This is the third update in a row that has ruined my phone. My theory is that it causes some of the apps to constantly reload as I can remember deleting some apps in previous updates and the problem was solved.

I've also noticed that my standby and usage time are identical which is right.

I am a brand new Iphone user, recently purchasing an Iphone 4. I downloaded the update as soon as I got the phone. My battery life is extremely short, usually less than a single day, which is certainly not what was advertised. And impossible for practical reasons. Charging time also seems to be extremely slow (is this normal?)

I was just about to take my iphone back to Apple to have them look at it, until I saw this thread. Is there likely to be an update?

The usage you are describing is not normal. What is your firmware number. Maybe we can a list of everyone's firmware to see if there is a common trend. My is 10.04.01.

Does your phone get really hot?

Also check to see if charges from your computer. The phone may say it's charging but I suspect it's not or very slowly.

Thanks for the reply. I have just gone through the process of restoring the Iphone, because I read in this thread that it might sort out the issue. Yes since you ask, the iphone does get quite hot. Not too hit to use, but hotter than I would think was healthy.

I have also just from backup, so-as not to lose my settings. Hopefully the backup will not put any bad software, or Apple updates likely to cause damage back on the Iphone?

Will report back when I have checked out whether this works.

Where do I find the firmware version?

May 16, 2011 7:51 PM in response to marky3

The Firmware number I was referring to is located in the Settings > General > About. I'm 95% sure the old phone I had and the new one have the same firmware number. For this reason, I am not going to upgrade the software. I guess is the problem has to do with the phone constantly transmitting at full power.

I would also check to see if the phone actually charges from your computer... I had mine plugged in for 3 hours and it only went up 1%.

In my view this is clearly a software issue.

My "Modem Firmware" is 04.10.01. Its possible that this is partly a date. If so it may very well be the UK version of the same firmware as you (day and month the other way round).

Since my Restore, the iphone has been idle for 4 hours and drained 10% of the battery. I don't know if this is normal, but its not looking like the restore has done much good so far. I'll give full feedback later on on whether this has improved things. So disappointing from Apple. If I can't find a solution, I may have to get the Apple store to replace this one and then never upgrade the OS.

Is there any way to downgrade the OS to an earlier version?

May 16, 2011 8:35 PM in response to marky3

The modem firmware is the same. My phone is from Canada so its likely a batch of phones that all have the same firmware. I did a full restore to new twice and only saw minimum improvement if any.

To my knowledge Apple won't allow you to downgrade the OS. (the Apple Store maybe able to) If you do find a way through a third party vendor you risk voiding your warranty.

All,

I have given this many days of testing and soak time after multiple restore as new's ....

I currently have almost all features turned off (Location services, Push email is set to completely manual, Ping is off, Calendar is off, etc ...) I tried turning airplane mode off and on ... pretty much everything that has been discussed in this thread.

Sad to say, my battery lasted a whopping 7 hours yesterday under what I consider minimal use. 10-12 short calls and checking email every 30 minutes. No surfing, no music played, no videos, etc ... My BB Bold would have not even blinked with this usage, with ALL of it's features turned on.

There is something seriously wrong with this and I'm still shocked that Apple has not ponied up and admitted there is a large issue here to be dealt with.

I guess we are all left waiting for Apple to stand up and do something here as in my opinion everything else we have all talked about is speculation.

I'd take the phone back and have it replaced, but I dont think this is a hardware problem at all ... but a software issue. (in my opinion)

Anyhow, I love reading all these posts but all us weekend hackers are in over our heads thinking restoring the phone solves the worlds problems.

APPLE, are you listening ?
