Where is the blinking cursor on reply input box?

When I click on reply to answer a post, I get the expected input box. No matter how long I wait, I do not get the blinking cursor that allows me to type in my answer. I have to use my mouse to click in the input box so I can begin my typing.

Have other people observed this? I am using TenFourFox on Tiger.

I still have OS 9 (9.1, actually) running on my G4 - use it all the time. Still prefer it to OSX. 🙂

Just can't access here (and lots of other websites) anymore with OS 9.

Just checking, Robert. Can you get the cursor to appear if you use one of the edit controls rather than clicking in the text area? (For example, I can get the cursor if after the box opens I click the B boldy thing instead of clicking in the writing area.)

Sorry, what's OS 9.2.2???? 😁 😀 Wasn't that last century??

Actually, it was last month.

Actually, my favorite was 10.4.11....... but, I generally and sort of try to keep up with things; not necessarily adopting a new OS immediately except when I had to because I bought a new Mac.

Back on topic: The only way I can get the cursor in the text box is to use mouse or trackpad click; if I don't, I get the most unusual results - page jumping elsewhere (literally) or not being able to either move the quoted text or be able to type above or below it.

I did find this way of getting the cursor in the text field:

click on html

type a letter

click on use regular editor

cursor appears in text field

delete letter. You need some text for the cursor to be placed.

While not typical protocol, my understanding is that Apple is watching this forum for comments on the new discussion groups.

Tuttle, I cannot resist, sorry.

I do not care whether they use javascript or tiddlywinks. It's up to the developer to use the appropriate tools to produce a workable GUI.

I can't help it if they employee poor programmers. If I recall correctly from my JavaScript programming days, there is a control you use to place the cursor in a field. I used the beta version of Yahoo mail just now, it puts the cursor in the input box when I did a reply to a message.

The forum software seems to be running faster today. This is very good news if it continues.

You do not need some text in order for the insertion point to be placed.

Rather than clicking on bold, html, or something similar that I would then need to undo, I find it much simpler to just click anywhere in the empty text box - and there the insertion point is, top left corner where it should be. One action.
