Do Not Enter Sign on Macbook Pro. 2010 13 inch

Hey Guys,

1.5 years into the life of my MBP and somethings gone wrong. Was getting the Mac out of sleep and it froze so I hard rebooted it, and it went to normal start up and then the Do Not Enter Sign came up and after googling it, tried everything. When i go into Disk Utility from the disc, it doesn't see the hard drive, only sees the disc itself. Weirdly, i dont know if anything's wrong with the hard drive since I have boot camp on the Mac, and I can log windows and even access the Macintosh partition and take files out. if anyone has any ideas, greatly suggested.

Symptoms

Instead of seeing the Finder or the login window after startup, your computer may stop responding and the display may only show a persistent gray screen (you may also see an Apple logo, spinning gear, spinning globe, prohibitory sign, or a folder with a flashing question mark on it). Note: Follow the below steps

thanks but the thing is ive tried everything and even attempted to do disk utility archive and install etc. but disk utility when running from the CD doesnt see my hard drive so i cant really do anything.. still confused.

You should be booting from the gray installation disc that came with the MBP, not from a retail Snow Leopard disc. Assuming that's the case, run the Apple Hardware Test from the Applications disc. Follow the instructions printed on the disc. Run the extended version of the test.

i have tried booting from the gray instsallation disc that was included with the mbp. ive also tried running the apple hardware test, and it says its okay so im still confused. the windows partition still works so idk.

If you can't see the internal drive in Disk Utility when booted from the right installation disc, then you're stuck. It must be a hardware failure, notwithstanding what the AHT says. You'll have to take it in for repair.

It sounds like the prohibitory sign is indicating a kernel panic at start up:

This post is a little late for ThisIsJM but for others who search for answers this may help.

Try holding the "command V" on power up to get verbose mode (assuming you are chosen the startup disk that is giving you problems) this will sometimes tell you what the computer is looking for or hanging on.
