Hi,
Due to a power connector problem I can no longer charge up my old 17" Powerbook G4. It would be costly to repair so I want to remove the HD and send files to my MacBook Pro. I have been advised to use a SATA drive to transfer the files. Which should I buy for compatibility?

Your G4 probably has an IDE drive. The easiest solution is to get a USB adapter which will connect to your drive and then allow you to connect through USB to a host computer. Then you can migrate files to your heart's content.
One such adapter is depicted at this link, which is offered only for example.
On the Powerbook side, many of the Powerbooks have a small, inexpensive DC-in board that houses the connector. Often, these are easy to replace. You might want to at least take a look at the iFixit site Powerbook Pages for more information.

I shall definitely look into the replace DC option as it seems a waste of a perfectly good computer.

The connector on the back or side of the machine for video will either be a DVI (pretty much rectangular) or VGA (bigger pins and trapezoidal). For exact information, start at this link from iFixit.
