Mac Pro memory upgrade

Hi,

My mac pro is 1,1 and want to upgrade the memory.

but I found that there are 2 types of memory,

The first one is

"2GB, PC2-5300, DDR2-667, 667Mhz, Dual Rank, Latency 5-5-5, ECC, Fully-Buffered, 256x72, 1.8V, 240pin FB-DIMMs" ($300 for 8GB )

and another one is

"2GB 240-pin FB-DIMM 256M x 72, 1 Rank ECC Module 5-5-5 667MHz TRUE PC5300 5.3GB/s" ($227 for 8G , 1 Year warranty)

Can anybody tell me what is the difference between Dual Rank and 1 Rank ?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Edtayin

You can study up, and eventually you will know enough about this complex issue. Then you can make a one-off purchase. If you did not make any mistakes, it will work. Otherwise, you will own a very expensive doo-dad.

Or you can do business with vendors who have expertise in Macs, offer a "money-back if it does not work" guarantee, and a lifetime warranty.

RAMJET is one such vendor. Here are two more:

Prefer dual-rank memory for the Mac Pro. Install RAM in matched pairs or for best performance install in matched quads.

Be sure the modules are FB-DIMMS (fully buffered) with ECC and have the required heat sinks. 667 MHz is the required speed. There is no advantage to installing 800 MHz modules.
