This has spontaneously appeared and I'm not sure why. I didn't do anything or change settings. It is something to do with my Canon printer I presume
That's not enough information. What were you doing, what does the box say?
If that opens while using a Web Browser, you are being offered Malware that would like to scare you into downloading and installing a Trojan Horse program that will take over your Mac.
Be sure your Browser settings do not include [√] Open "safe" downloads automatically.
NO downloads are safe. You should consider carefully and give your permission for each and every one.
No it just appears on the screen- before I can do anything. But thanks about the settings hint. I will check. I likelly downloaded something that I shouldn't . Not sure how to figure out what. I am not as familiar with gettign rid of something on Mac as I am on PC- where years of junk has made me an expert computer tinkerer. But Mac environment i snew to me.

"Vishing" is the new Skype for tricking and lurring users into "Phising" or downloading malware.
Try Firefox with NoScript and use the same common sense you developed in the past.
So how do I fix this? Lots of the virus cleaners are windows based. And where is the NoScript? I looked in preferneces but didn't see anything. Thanks for the help. Does Vishing happen when I use Skype? Should I not use Skype again?
If you use Firefox I assume you know where and how to find and install extensions.
A liitle searching will turn up what you need. Whether Google, Bing, or Mac oriented news, tips, file downloads.

So they do exist but haven't played much of a role.
NoScript is a Firefox Add-on, not a built-in option.
Search for it and you will find it very quickly.
Scan found no viruses. But so much going on. My other post got no responses. I am wondering about the weird things. Now, in OUtlook for Mac. I delete messages only to find them all back in my inbox in bold- like they hadn't been opened. Thousands of them.

Malware has pre-installed itself into the Install at Startup folder, and would like you to please continue what you were doing, and "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain."
This is NOT a virus.
It is a really annoying startup item for Canon scanners/printers. Annoying, but not malware.
I have a Canon MX700 printer/scanner and the message always appeared on my Mac at startup. Thank you for this solution!
