Help! Do not disconnect will not go away.....

I plugged my Ipod in to charge the battery and it is now frozen. I can not get it to recognize in Itunes and the Do not disconnect message will not go away. I have tried to hold the MENU button down, but get nothing. Any suggestions what I need to do?
