ok, I know this has been asked, but I can't seem to find the previous posts asking this.

I know the old forum would not let you change your username.

I don't see a way now to do it with this new one, but, are there plans to work that into the system and also change all your back posts?

I know that you can just start over, but I hate to lose the points and previous posts in one access point.

Again, forgive me for asking this age old question..

There was an announcement by Eric some time ago that the feature would be available

If that announcement was made, I didn't seen it. That's not to say that that announcement wasn't made, but maybe you could provide a link...?

Clearly, some people have seen their user names changed for one reason or another, you being one of them.

From what I've seen, some user names have been changed due to privacy concerns (i.e., they'd been using their real names), and others because they'd had multiple accounts using the same email address, and those accounts were merged at the time of the changeover.

Whether anyone and everyone will have the opportunity to change their user names isn't something I've heard discussed.

It wasn't an announcement, it was in the Feedback forum and Eric chimed in on one person's request to change the name. He said that it would be possible with the help of a host (and that is why I thought there is a "username issue" option in the new 'report a post'. I spent 45 minutes searching last night before I gave up; I couldn't remember the topic or date, but filtered it to the forum, Eric, and/or myself - could not find it. I would have had it in about 3 seconds if my subscriptions had ported over.

Yes, I can only see these results for Eric W. AND user AND name.

Closest quote from Eric W. on the issue seems to be here:

Once you create an alias, you cannot make changes to it. If you want to change your alias, you will need to create a new User Account."

"Username issue" under Report link usually has to do with reporting inappropriate user names, or, as has been the case recently, reporting login issues where people have had multiple accounts merged in the changeover.

thanks guys for the reply. My username is just fine, but I haven't had a powerbook in many years and was just wondering if the option would exist with this new forum to be able to update your username and have it change it in all of your previous posts.

I too remember reading that reference awhile back, but like you could not find it now.

It's odd, you can change about anything else but that...

But, thanks for your help in determining the answer to my question.

I have read the instructions in this post which are pretty clear.

However the user Ali Brown only explains how to create a new username for the support communities by creating a New Apple ID. He does not explain how to do this without signing up for a new Apple ID, even though subsequent comments say you can.

I am finding this issue annoying. My company owns this Apple ID, and is associated with several items including a developer login. The username I am associated with in this forum belongs to employees who left many years ago. I did contact Apple Support, who directed me to Itunes support who keeps telling me I am logging in with the wrong username, which is nonsense.

In order to create a new username for these forums, you will need to create a new Apple ID. You cannot change your username without creating a new Apple ID, and the new Apple ID must be created with a different email address than was used to create the old Apple ID.

This last part is a new requirement, so Ali's post is correct, in spite of the fact that other people offered workarounds. Those workarounds don't work anymore.

Good luck!
