Less than a year old...it should still be under warranty. Take it to an Apple Store, or call Apple. There is a "Contact Us" link for Apple at the bottom right of this page if you want to call them.
Try a 'reset-start'
Hold down both the power and the home button until the apple icon appears, it will re-set and re-start.

The iPad is like a small computer, and at times can experience issues. The reset described is just like rebooting your computer. Have you ever had to do that, of course, and for whatever reason. It doesn't hurt, and sometimes, we may never really know why we had to, just that we did and it worked. Enjoy your device.
