I am needing some help. I am a new mac user and for the life of me I cannot import movies from my
Sony DCR-SR68 to my mac pro. I was assuming that imovie would help me, but it doesn't.
Does anyone know what I should do?

I am a new Mac user, too and I have the same problem with my new iMac. iMovie refuse to recognize the formats recorded in Sony DCR-SR68, which is supported by iMovie on Apple website. Even QuickTime could not play the footage until I purchased the QuickTime MPEG-2 component. I've been searching the answer for weeks, but did not have solutions.

No, I mean after I purchased the QuickTime MPEG-2 component, I can play the footage recorded in Sony DCR-SR68 HD without sound output. But iMovie still could not recognize the recorded formats, thus importing nothing!

After reading all other relevant threads in the forum, I decided to install MPEG Streamclip (free). You can transform movies from Sony DCR-SR68 into formats recognized by and then imported to iMovie by Streamclip without problems. Enjoy!

I just asked the same question regarding the problem that you had. Is the Streamclip easy to use? Where do I go to download it?

I think the Streamclip is easy to use. Just drag the clip in Sony HD to streamclip. Then export it as QuickTime format, enabling it to be imported to iMovie. And yes, the Streamclip is free to be downloaded at http://www.squared5.com/. But you have to purchase the QuickTime MPEG-2 component at apple website to get Streamclip to work properly.

Thanks for the info. Taipei 101 but I went a different route and it is even easier. I downloaded free from Handbrake and that is all I needed. I talked with Apple and they were very helpful but they do not tell you that if using the Quicktime MPEG-2 add on that you then have to download the Streamclip. I tried the Hankdbrake program on one move clip as a test and it went thru. quickly and easily.
type Handbrake into the Google and when it comes up download the Mac OS, intel 64 bit free program and you won't have anymore problems.
After upgrade to OSX Lion and iMovie '11 9.0.4, you can import your clips from Sony DCR-SR68 to iMovie. iMovie will do the rest for you. No StreamClip needed anymore. 🙂

Sony DCR-SR68 is kindof slow to be detected. After minutes later, iMovie can detect it, then it can import manually or automatically all clips in DCR-SR68. Cheers again!😉
