I have plugged in my Ipad 2 into several computers in which they having the most new system running with USB 2.0 ports and it still says not charging? Only way Ipad 2 will charge is by using wall charger...HELP?! I don't have Mac I have a PC but I noticed it's happening with MAC users as well?
Might be time to take it to Apple and ask them to fix it.

I have the same problem. Brand new iPad 2, straight out of the box.
Same thing here. I assumed it was because the iPad 2 needs more than the USB trickle charge can supply. The power brick for the iPad 2 is much bigger than the ones for my iPod and iPhone, which makes me think it is higher wattage
I'm seeing that on most posts related to this issue, there's nothing you can do but just charge via wall charger...or buy a powered USB port? Oh well for now, I guess i'm just so used to after years of having Ipods and Iphones that it should be capable to charge via computer...
Priscilla- I agree...a lot of people are talking about the wattage of that power adapter and how USB only charges at a certain slow rate...Oh well at least now I know that basically the USB cord provided with charger is just to sync and keep my Ipad 2 up to date not to charge on computer...
If the USB port is not supplying the iPads preferred current, you will get the "Not charging' display. If the iPad is turned off, it will charge, but relatively slowly. A normal USB 2 port only supplies a quarter of the current supplied by the wall charger.
Hey folks. Read this and put your minds at ease. The iPad is not designed to charge from the USB ports of most computers. The wall charger is the recommended way to charge the iPad. Some USB ports will allow the iPad to charge albeit very slowly. They just do not put out enough power to charge the iPad. You may see the Not Charging message but it still may be charging - but like I said - very slowly.
I have noticed the same thing. But if I dont use the iPad it will charge. It is a trickle charge that takes a long time compared to the outlet.

Hi Guys, the ipad 2 WILL charge from the USB port on your Mac or PC but it must be in 'sleep mode' otherwise it demands too much current!
To put the ipad 2 into sleep mode just press the power button on the top right corner.

I kind of get this.
Plug it in to my belkin usb hub and it states not charging, plug it in to a usb port on my mac mini and it charges no problem at all.
Just not enough power from the usb hub to charge it up.
Same thing here, plugged into 4 way usb splitter IPAD 2 displays "not charging" plugged direct into back of IMAC charging began no issue. seeem not enough wattage is passed through usb splitters/connectors etc,

I have the same problem with ipad out of the box.
My husbands ipad does charge in the same usb port of the same computer so it does not seem to be a power supply problem to the computer.
If that was the problem his ipad would not charge either, but it sure does!
