RAM upgrade for iMac G5 (iSight model)

You want to upgrade your new iMac G5 (iSight) memory?
If you go for Apple Solution it will cost you a lot ?

I did some study on the issue and the buttom line is:

By (ANY) RAM with the following specifications.

PC2-4200 DDR2, 533Mhz, CL4, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, 1.8V, 240pin DIMM

It is recommended though that you get a good brand name like Kingston (See KVR533D2N4/512 and KVR533D2N4/1G). Go to the page below and look for the KVR533D2N4 models (Make sure the number shown here match). The info after / gives the size.

Apple RAM upgrade page:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302506

Notes (about Apple page above):
CL4 is the same as saying Latency 4-4-4-12
Non-ECC is the same as saying non-parity

I've already successfully installed additional 1GB of RAM. So this is not theoretical. Apple original RAM is 20% to 40% higher in price. I've checked the original Apple RAM, its the same as Kingston but with a different label .. huh, how smart.

All RAM that meets the specs will work. I believe Apple is currently using Samsung RAM in their computers, but they buy from different vendors. You can go to dealram.com to compare prices from many different vendors.

The advantage to apple RAM is that you will never be asked to remove it when troubleshooting a problem, but I would say that most people here have bought their RAM upgrades from other vendors.

Your link shows a search that includes CHEAP!! Value Ram that even Kingston doesn't recommend for Macs.

NO WAY will I buy that. There is plenty of quality, compatible RAM available for iMacs from a long list of quality RAM sellers. I'd include Kingston's machine specific RAM on that list. I wouldn't include anyone's bargain basement, unwarrantied RAM, however, and couldn't in good consience recommend it for a Mac.
