How to connect an external antenna for 3G?

In our rural sommerhouse I want to connect my Pad to the 3G-network. I will try a directional antenna for 3G/GSM with a standard antenna cable. Does anybody know how I can connect the antenna signal to the Ipad?

There is no way to connect an external antenna to an iPad; not without ripping the iPad apart, anyway. If you do not have sufficient signal strength from the 3G provider in your area, you ask your cell provider if they offer a 3G nanocell for people in your situation (presuming you have broadband Internet at that location).

Alternatively, a MiFi device might provide stronger reception, if your carrier offers one.

Regards.

No expert here, but I don't think you can connect an antenna to your iPad. A better solution would likely be for you to get a Mifi hotspot for your Sommerhouse.

MiFi is a compact wireless router, small enough to fit inside your pocket or into a bag pocket; it allows you to create your own Wi-Fi hotspot. This advance in Technology allows you to connect to up to 5 at any one time, such devices include the iPad, iPod, Printer, PSP, Laptop and many other wireless devices with no need for USB’s or wires.

err, but if the iPad cannot get a reliable cellular signal, how is the mifi going to connect? Unless you can get a mifi that accepts an external directional antennae? Does such a thing exist?

Dave - if the OP has broadband internet, why not just buy a wifi router? A 3G microcell going through broadband internet seems a pointless bottleneck for a data connection.

Don't know of anyway to hook up an antennae to the iPad itself. There are numerous available whole house 3G range extender antennae's that you could try though (Tennatron, zBoost - they sell on Amazon). Something like that might be a more practical choice.

The only thing seems to be that most reviews I've read of these is that they may work alright to imporve signal for voice calls, they seem less useful for extending data connection range (I looked into some of these before the AT&T 3G microcell was available to fix my indoor cell phone reception problems).
