Q: Macintosh IIx Logic Board

Well, I picked up Macintosh IIx the other day.  Didn't work, and I knew that it was a battery issue as the battery in B1 was at 0.67V and the B2 was at 3.6V.

I went out and bought a new 3.6V w/ axels and soldered it to the board and now it starts up.  But on the monitor it displays a bunch of weird lines and doesn't chime either

I read that another common issue was Capacitors leaking.  Doesn't look like the case in here, but not sure if there might be another underlaying issue somewhere.

I'm usually good at fixing legacy macs but this one is stumping me....  I've succesffuly soldered a new battery in a Macintosh II a few years ago and it started up perfectly, but this one, pftttt.....  Stumped!!

HELP!!

Apple II's, 68k's, Mac II's, Centris, Powerbooks's, Performas, PowerMacs, G3's., Mac OS X (10.3.x), mac collector since age 8 years old :-)

Great news.  Is that the case pictured to the right in the photo?  It looks more like a IIsi or even flatter.  Wasn't the IIx a taller box like the 7100?

    Hey.

Its the upper lid of the IIx.  The huge bottom of it was on the floor.  I have to clean it up before I start doing anything else to it.  Thank god it was only a RAM issue and not a logic board issue.  The IIx has 2MB through 8 SIMS now.

I'm debating weather to sell my II or IIx.  Can't decide.

They both have their Pro's and Con's.  The II is all original but the IIx is faster.  The II has the nice HUGE 40MB HD and dual 800k Drives.  The IIx has the normal small Quantum w/ 1x 1.44mb drive.

    I'll figure it out!

You need the IIx so that you can convert 400K and 800K diskettes to 1.4s. Unless you have another "Huge Beige Diskette Drive" that can do that job.

The IIx is now listed on eBay.

I have no use in converting floppies.  I have about 30 macs/apple II's in my collection.  I'm at no loss for anything haha.  I've been fixing old macs for years now and run a home business selling the olders ones I have spares of.  This one just stumped me.  But I figured it out as I usually do!!

If your interested, get it.  Works flawlessly now, except for the fact it doesn't chime.  But no big deal.  No one these days will be using it for audio purposes.
