"Find my Ipod" works without a WIFI connection?
Ok i heard that the "find my iphone" feature works for ipod touch. Will it work regardless of a wifi connection?

Despite what it seems to say in the link supplied by CS above, "Find my iPhone" will not work on an iPod Touch unless it is connected to a wi-fi source (after all, the iPod does not have GPS nor a connection to a 3/4G network). Therefore, in order to work, it must be in range of an unsecured wi-fi source or one you can otherwise connect to (such as if you misplaced it in your house).
That's what I thought too... how can it be located without wi-fi, 3/4G networks and gps? Although there are people that swear by it that it still works when they turn wi-fi off. Is it possible that there is some kind of GPS hardware hidden in there that apple doesn't want us to really know about?? I'd actually like to test it myself, but it's a big investment!
The find-my-iPhone feature doesn't do anything, until it receives a request for it's location from the web service (it is not continually broadcasting anything). It cannot receive that request unless it has an active data connection, and without the request it not only does nothing, but without a data connection, it could not send it's location information anywhere or to anything.
A data connection is an absolute necessity for the feature to work at all - be it 3G (for those devices with a cellular radio) or wifi. Those who say it works without an active data connectio are either misinformed, nuts or hallucinating 😝

...or they read this Apple site, linked in an above post: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/find-my-ipodtouch.html While it does not explicitly say that it works without a connection, nowhere on the page does it say that you need one. The implication is that it always works, as opposed to the stars have to be correctly aligned for it to work. This is one way in which the misinformation is spread.
As always, you need to read the whole page, including the fine print at the bottom, ie. item #2
"Find My iPod touch enables you to locate your iPod touch only when it is on and connected to a registered Wi-Fi network."
And, one might wonder, in the absence of a data connection, and with no cellular radio in an iPod Touch, just how were these people figuring the device would transmit its location information?
No it can't
From the page you linked:
"Find My iPod touch enables you to locate your iPod touch only when it is on and connected to a registered Wi-Fi network."
My question is this: when a current gen iPod Touch plugs into a mac connected to a network running iTunes can it report it's location through Find My iPod?
Only if the iPod is alos connected via wifi. The USB connection does not provide any interenet conductivity.
Read the fineprint: on the link you gave - Find My iPod touch enables you to locate your iPod touch only when it is on and connected to a registered Wi-Fi network.
ok if you have a ipod touch you have to have wifi when you do it well work but with no wifi it will not. i tried it on my ipod and ipad did no wifi on it. it said it was offline and when i terned it back it was bat and it fond it. if you have a iphone or ipad with 3g (and it is on)it will work. if not it will not and if you dont belive me try it your self.😝
is the ipod on wifi if not no
