How do you change EVERY note's velocity in garageband to the SAME number?

Whenever I try highlighting all the notes in garageband and raise the velocity, it raises each relative to what it was before.

I want to set all of them to the SAME velocity! Say like having them all set to the velocity of 50... anyone know how to do this?

THANKS!

I know this thread has been around a while, but it's a great question, and I just discovered how you can do exactly what the OP was looking for:

The key is that rather than click on one of the velocity markers, click and drag in the empty space.

This allows you to set any or all velocities at once, either to the same value, or ramping up or down linearly.

Just try it and you'll see what I mean.

Here is an update about this topic with some (hidden) functionality:

To set all the selected Notes to the same value:

  • Select the notes in the Piano Roll
  • Open the MIDI Draw Area so you can see what is going on
  • Hold down the option key first ( ! ) and then drag the Velocity Slider in the left Piano Roll Inspector all the way to the right
  • As you can see in the MIDI Draw Area, the velocity values of all MIDI Notes have been set to one equal value "127"
  • While keeping the notes selected, you can drag the Velocity Slider to any value and all Notes will have that Velocity

Here are some other lesser know operations:

  • Set all selected Notes to the Same End Point: Select the notes and drag the end position of one of the notes (Pointer Tool changes to the Resize Tool) and then ( ! ) hold down the shift key while dragging
  • Set all selected Notes to the Same Length: Select the notes and drag the end position of one of the notes (Pointer Tool changes to the Resize Tool) and then ( ! ) hold down the shift+option key while dragging

Hope that helps

Hi, Jay! Sometimes I can get the click & drag to draw a line and sometimes I can't. I'm kind of going nuts trying to figure out what makes it work or not work. When it works it's great! Everything does what I want it to! But when it doesn't - it just doesn't do anything, or if I accidentally go over a velocity marker it changes that one note. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thank you!

I found that this only works in the first region of the track. If you want to do the whole track you have to join the regions.

Also, you can't get the line to work if you're clicking where a note is being played. In order to get empty space, shorten the note in the piano roll, then draw in the empty space, then return the note to its original length.

It's as if they wrote the interface and never tried using it.
