These come from Outlook Express, correct? If you have no way to re-save them from OE to a different format, then you might try some conversion utilities you can find at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Search for "outlook express." Alternatively, you would need to find an email program that can handle OE mail files then re-export to a format compatible with Mail such as Thunderbird.

I found this thread:

Personally, I've never had to do it, but OE always is problematic to work with. I usually start with converting OE files (.dbx files) to Outlook pst files, then doing the convert. But not everyone has access to Outlook.

In that forum (above) are several comments from folks who have done the conversions.

With yours, .eml files are the individual mail files (not the mail store), so you might have to look deeper, OR get back into the mail store and put them all there again.

Good Luck.

I had the same problem - trying to import my Windows Mail files (Outlook Express is the same format) into OS X.

After much Googling, I found this utility:

You have to run it in Windows at a command prompt ('DOS' Window) to export your .eml files to .mbx format.

Then copy those files to your mac, Open Mail, select File|Import Mailboxes, and import the files you copied over.

Then, you just need to organize them as you want, as Mail will put all imported files under one 'Import' folder.

You can use the EML to MBOX Converter of PCVARE that can easily convert entire EML files to Apple Mail. Using this solution, you can get entire .eml files into Apple Mail. This software supports only Windows platform so copy entire eml files and use Windows OS for conversion from EML to MBOX by the software and then you can import entire EML files into Apple Mail.
