Q: Transcode stops. Compressor has to be cleared constantly

Have not seen this so I will post the question.

This is happening several times a day.

We send jobs to FCP server and the "Search all job" windows shows everything is transcoding fine. Then all of a sudden we will notice the jobs are not transcoding and will just sit in the que forever.

The only way to resolve is to follow these steps:

1. Stop Final Cut Server form System Prefences.

2. Open /var/spool/qmaster  Delete teh Random folder name containing the Jobs and Shared.

3. Open Activity Monitor and kill CommpressorTranscode and CompressorBatchController.

4. Start Final Cut Server

After these steps the jobs will continue to run flawless untill at a random point it all stops again.

We though that it may be a problem with the clips, but if we follow these steps and then resubmit the clips it transcodes them perfectly.

Seems like qmaster or compressor is just choking after a awhile.

Would love to figure out how to get this to keep running.

Between step 1 and 2 I would shut down qmaster from pref panel and reset the services. After step 2 you must restart it again. I won't kill the processes from the activity monitor instead try in Compressor Compressor/Reset Background Processing and "Reset and Cancel Jobs".

Other than that you have to be more specific about qmaster settings and system config to be able to help further.

    Hope this help

We are using the Matrox CompressorHD card with the Maxtrox CompressorHD ipad lan streaming settings in FCS as the Proxy transcode settings. The strange thing is that it simply stops processing jobs. Once we follow these steps, it takes the same clips and transcodes them fine. So we know its not a transcode setting or a problem with the clips.

Ok but I need more data about your system config.

    1) qmaster configuration (quickcluster?, service and nodes)

    2) Where are FCS, qmaster and compressor running?  (xserver, macpro, same mac, ram, processors)

    3) Where is the qmaster cluster storage set in?

And all other info you can think off

    Thanks

XSAN Secondary MDC | FinalCutServer | Qmaster - All locally run on server.

Qmaster is set up as Services only. Cluster stoarge is set to /var/spool/qmaster

FinalCut Server is running locally and using the XSAN volume as XSAN storage. The proxies and Clips are stored here.

All are running on the same Mac, a "MacPro Server" laugably called so by apple.

MacPro 2.8 Quad Core 8GB Ram.

Raid-5 Local Hard Drive on 3 1TB Sata Drives.

    Mac OS X Server 10.6.7 XSAN 2.2

If Qmaster is set to services only in the same MAC you have FCS and Secondary MDC, where is the Qmaster controller running? How many instances of Compressor are you running on this MAC? Do you have the cluster selcted in the FCS/Administrator/Preferences/Compressor loockup? or you have "This Computer" option?

    Best regards
