We were watching a movie on Netflix, screen went black and said No Signal. Tried to get Apple Tv to come back on screen...nothing happens. I reset the AppleTv and then it said "Invalid Format".
The AppleTv (less than 6 months old) is hooked up to a Vizio LCD flatscreen. It has worked just fine up until now. Does anyone have any idea what has happened?

Try pulling all the cables and trying again. Do you have another HDMI cable you can try.
I pulled cables from AppleTv but not from the tv itself. I do not have another HDMI cable...I can go buy one....but this one is less than 6 months old.
You might try borrowing one if it's just for diagnosis, you might also try the Apple TV with another TV.
Try pressing menu and the down button for more than 6 seconds.
Magically fixed itself.
I had tried the reset (pressing menu and down button) earlier in the day...it didn't do anything except change the error code from Invalid Format to No Signal and vice versa.
I don't know why it was down for a couple hours but it is up and working again. Thanks for all the suggestions! Hopefully this is a one time thing.
Nothing ever 'magically' fixes itself. It sounds like an HDMI issue to me, if resetting the Apple TV didn't help then maybe you turned the TV off or to another input or you wriggled the HDMI cable. Next time it happens try noting what you do that fixes it.
