Video showing "puppet strings"!

Don't laugh but this is exactly what it looks like. I am fairly new to video-making and iMovie, athough I have done about five videos. I just started another one, added a sound track, and now when I play it I see thin black lines moving horizontally across the screen. I took out the sound track but they are still there. What is going on and how do I fix this?
