Losing wi-fi network connection and password.

I am having a problem with my I-Phone 3Gs after adding an Apple Airport Extreme. I keep losing my Wi-Fi network connection. The correct Network name shows up in Settings but the password gets lost and so I have to enter the password every time I lose connection.

How do I force the i-phone to retain the password?
