I just got FCE, and in the canvas window when i play a clip, it says unrendered. I was told this was due to the video not being converted properly. It plays fine in imovie. What do i need to convert it to for it to play in the canvas window (so i don't have to render it each time)?

Can't tell you what to convert it to without knowing exactly what it is. Open it in the QuickTime player and give us a screenshot of what it says in the movie inspector.
Sorry. You can't use this with FCE. The media is too small. The smallest FCE format is standard definition video, which is 720x480. If you blow this up to that size it's going to look like garbage,
Oh. Is that all i need to change? I tried converting it (only changed the size) to 720by480. Just to see if it would work, and it didn't.
The size isn't enough. You also have to change the codec to DV NTSC, the frame rate to 29.97, and the audio to uncompressed 48k. I'm assuming you're in North America. Otherwise the frame size is 720x576, at 25fps, and the codec is DV PAL.
