restored files: where are they?

I just bought the new imac. I traded in my old imac against the new one. Before I left for Tekserve, I check again that everything was backed up onto Time Capsule. There is was, everything. I get back, plug in my new machine, go through Migration Assistant to pull files from TC onto the new machine. Below is a snapshot of the window. I select continue. It takes a long while, then I get a message that the migration was successful. But I can't find anything from TC on the new machine. I hunted in library, pictures, music, everything. No one thing from the old machine. I opened TC and peered in: it shows no back ups ever. This makes no sense, since Migration is finding folders. I'm really confused. What happened to the back up in TC? If files migrated, where are they? Any thoughts appreciated.

I have the same problem! With one extra step after restoring the files to another computer, when I try to do the migration it says the system is in use by another computer. If that "other" computer is the one i have on this network, it is in the shop being repaired. I am trying to pull the data from that broken mac.

Where is this backup data?? What good is a 1T backup drive that you can't retrieve data from??

After talking to support people at Apple Store and TekServe, then called Apple iMac person, then Apple TC specialist...... Migration Assistant moved my files from TC onto new iMac, then Back-up ran automatically and immediately wiped TC. But the files the MA said were moved successfully have disappeared. They are nowhere. They are gone. Most of the Apple people were patient and helpful. The TC Specialist could not have been more condescending and defensive. I finally said, let's call it a night, you're into the blame game, I'll call back. Basically, TC failed as back-up when moving data to a new machine. I should have let TekServe do it for their fee. Before TC, I had a LaCie HD, but that got corrupted. I'm not sure what's next, but I'm getting ride of TC. Apple nicely let me re-download music from iTunes that I had bought in the past, although I had to sit still for a lecture of how I should be backing up. In a nutshell, all was lost.
