I have a new iPod touch, that I want to sync with my existing iTunes Library. However, I want to keep my old classic ipod (for use in the house); can I have two registered to one library without loosing or wiping my library?

There is no device limit for the number of iPods, iPads, and iPhones that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer.
1. Set itunes to not sync automatically when ipod is connected in edit/preferences/devices.
2. Connect ipod. Set itunes to manually manage music in the summary.
3. Then drag and drop whatever content you want to the device on the left.
No need to have mutiple libraries.
Apple: Make this the default setting for itunes and 90% of these problems will go away!

The OP wants both iPods to carry the contents of the library but was afraid that syncing the second iPod would somehow mess up either the library or the first iPod - not, of course, the case since no information from the iPod is transferred to the library.
Your suggestion is applicable for people who want a second iPod to carry a different selection of songs.
My suggestion was for anyone who wants to use more than one ipod, which is what the op was asking about. They can put the entire library or any part of it on as many ipods as they want.
