Apple TV 2 is stuck on the "setting calendar/date"-screen forever. Please help!

My Apple TV 2 will not start, whatever I do. It's stuck on a screen which says "setting calendar/clock/date" (or something like that), and never gets past it. I've been waiting for it to fix itself for about two hours - so waiting wont fix it. Resetting it by pulling the plug does *not* work - neither does resetting it via the Apple Remote.

Please help me, I seriously need the Apple TV!

AppleTV 2, iOS 4.2, I don't know the exact iOS version.

It sounds like you haven't got a proper connection to the Internet or that your router is blocking access to certain ports which are needed to set the time.

I had this same problem with mine and after changing it out at the mac store, it still didn't solve my problems. I was on th ephone for over an hour with tech support and we finally narrowed it down to the router blocking the ports it needs to communicate with the apple server. If you have an Apple TV generation 2, you will need to port forward the followiing ports; TCP 123, 3689, 80, 443, 53, and UDP 5353. I forwarded these and still have my firwall in place with no problems with my Apple TV now.

I honestly can't see how that can be the problem, it worked fine for months - then suddenly port forwarding starts to matter? Why?

And *how* do I forward a port anyways?

you'll need to refer to the manual for your particular router.

and i would bet that this IS your router or firewall that is causing the issue.

Okay, it might be. I will try to do that.

What ports was I going to forward?

TCP 123

TCP 3689

TCP 80

TCP 443

TCP 53

UDP 5353

Did I get them right? If not, can someone please write them in a list, like above, so I can more easily see which port is which?

But whether it is or nor, I still can't connect the Apple TV to my Mac via Micro USB. At least iTunes doesn't detect it. Any way to fix that?
