Just wanting to know is there a way to retrieve deleted text messages & call lists using only your iphone? not by backing up from itunes.
There is software & hardware available that can do this, however it is expensive. For most folks, once you've deleted it, it's gone for all practical purposes.

No, although you "may" be able to see them in a spotlight search, but not retrieve them. They will eventually disappear as the space they occupy is overwritten through normal use of your phone.
what is a spotlight search and where do i find that?
A Spotlight search is a search of the computer's index. You can access it it from the Menu Bar: Go to the magnifying glass icon in the far right end of the menu bar. Click and a search field will drop down for you to type the name of the contact or message that you are looking for. There are more refined methods but try this easy one first.
in the search iphone bar on the left hand side??? i tried this but i can't retreive my deleted call list or msgs. Anything else??

apparently there is an app that you can get that shows all deleted msgs and call history after its been deleted. Does anyone know about this?
You have to enable hidden files. Then look for the Mobilesync file under Library. There is a backup file. You can read the deleted messages there by using a program called Base. They have a trial that allows you about 10 minutes of searching each time you use it, before you either have to start over or purchase. The messages are in a file that starts with 3d0d......I don´t know which file hides the call lists.
Almost all the messages are there unless they have been overwritten.
This assumes you have made a back-up, by right clicking when you sync.
