Huge virtual memory allocation... 10 gig and above with htop

I have an 8 core Xserve with 8 gig of memory....


i was watching processes (the way you do at work on a sunny saturday afternoon) and saw virt memory consumption in htop like the following...


11.6G AppleFileServer
35G Mds
10G window server

10.1g clamd

11.4g ldap

11.3g mysql


I saw this in HTOP but this does not relate to the activity monitor figures...


htop, installed through the ports system, what is it doing here, what is it seeing.... am i in trouble...


i guess i am in trouble as it is a sunny saturday afternnoon and i am watching processes on my xserve.
