May 11, 2014 5:51 AM in response to Csound1by Peter Stricker1,Thanks for the quick responses, folks, just doing my due diligence.
So I gather from your posts that the issue is not that MacKeeper harms your computer, but opens it up to a barrage of unwanted spam -- I certainly don't want that, I get enough of that already.

May 11, 2014 6:53 AM in response to Peter Stricker1by Allan Eckert,In addition to that, I have had to help users with Macs where MacKeeper,
corrupted the files system to the point of it being unusable,
removed files from the system so that the Mac could no longer boot.
and causing a generally slowness that was only fixed by the nuclear solution of a reinstall of OS X.

Mac OS XYou probably have adware installed. See -> http://www.thesafemac.com/announcing-admedic/ - for the AdMedic adware removal tool.

Mar 11, 2015 9:52 AM in response to John Galtby Don Peterson,I have to say I have been wrong about Mac Keeper and a bit naive, as well. I got some malware that somehow infected my iMac under the "protection of Mac Keeper" and it caused havoc. It cost me $250 to get it cleaned up by an outside company. I have removed Mac Keeper from my computer.
My bad. Live & learn.

Mar 30, 2015 12:45 PM in response to yaniqueby trevorhackett,What annoys me is the results of my investigations into why my Mac was persistently crashing (even leaving me in precarious situations wrt retrieving a bootable file system on occasions).
Mackeeper played a role in solving the problem in the end. Yup, you've got to the punchline early - removing Mackeeper solved the problem......
Trevor.

May 4, 2015 10:16 AM in response to Nate Hodgesby mhikl,Only prob is that at the moment you can’t get the latest version, 2.7.5 from the App store—which is kind of strange. I prefer to get my apps from the App Store. But it isolated three bad things? to a folder on my desktop and which I then trashed. My computer had gone haywire and nothing would fix it and I spend a full day backing up my data to do a complete re-install but didn’t have to do it after running ClamXav, latest version. Don’t know why the latest version is not on the App Store.
Namaste and care,
mhikl

May 4, 2015 11:43 AM in response to yaniqueby Scottsabby,DO NOT put this crap on your PC!
I thought I was doing a good thing and had them install it a couple weeks ago. Went to sync my phone a few days ago and learned EVERYTHING in iPhotos disappeared. Of course they say I deleted it…blah, blah.
I am not tech savvy at all and the main reason I bought the MacBook was to keep/store photos. Now they (thousands) are gone and I am SICK!!!

May 4, 2015 11:57 AM in response to Scottsabbyby Allan Eckert,It is exactly for that reason that I always suggest you should set up a valid backup program to protect your data.
Old IT maxim; The lost of data it a certainty. The only question is went it will happen.

May 4, 2015 12:05 PM in response to Allan Eckertby Scottsabby,That's what I thought I was doing. I fell hook, line and sinker. I can't tell you how miserable I feel! I thought I was doing a good thing and now many years of my families life is gone.

Jun 11, 2015 6:40 PM in response to D82by XCH1,Do not install the mac keeper. The mac keeper makes your computer less secure, slower and can potentially let malware and viruses leak in. Some mackeeper users have started experiencing "random crashes" and "restrictions" due to mac keeper. Avoid mackeeper as much as possible, as it can seriously wreck havoc.
