Drat ... it would have been kind of it to tell us which file couldn't be found.

We'll try a couple of simpler things first.

(1) Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and click "Repair". If the repair seems to go through smoothly, check to see if the Apple Mobile Device Service launches without the error.

If no luck with that:

(2) Restart the PC again. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Mobile Device Support" and click "Repair". If the repair seems to go through smoothly, check to see if the Apple Mobile Device Service launches without the error

If no luck with that, let's try a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and related components (including AAS and AMDS):

Apple Mobile Device is not under programs. I can only find it on C:\\ program files\common files\apple.

Okay ... that will be our problem. It's not correctly installed at present.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.

Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

http://www.rarlab.com/

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").

Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi to do a standalone AMDS install.

(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)

Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does the service start now?

If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

Hi B.

Sorry, but was offline for a while- I have now tried your latest advice and it did not work I am afraid.

When I am installing AMDS64.msi it says:

Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't installed on your computer. (then it continues in swedish: Fel inträffade innan installeraren kunde konfigurera AMDS - which means in english: Errors occurred before the installer could configure AMDS.)

Anymore ideas?

Thanks for your patience and help!

J.

Drat. It's quitting at a very early stage of proceedings.

Plausibly, that could mean that some other program or process is interfering with the install. If that's what has been going on, we might be able to get past it by doing a clean boot.

Try restarting the PC, configured as in the following document:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

After the clean boot, now try right-clicking on the AMDS64.msi and choosing "Run as administrator".

Does the install go through then?

If not, does it get through the process any further than our previous attempt?
