How to save iTunes library/playlists when moved to another computer

Recently, my laptop died (because of being overheated). Now the good thing is, that I had all my music back upped. Now soon I will get a new laptop, and my question was whether I could save the current playlists etc that are on my iPod (and thus also on my old laptop).

Another good thing: I would be able to access my old laptop for about 10 minutes.

So is it possible to save some library file in the iTunes folder or so, so that I do not have to create all those playlists again?

Thank you in advance.

[Old laptop was a Medion Akoya, Windows Vista. Probably going to have a HP Pavillion, Windows 7 soon.]

The best way to back up is to Consolidate the library using the Consolidate command, and then copy the entire iTunes folder. By copying the entire folder you will have all your library content as well as library data such as ratings, play counts and of course, playlists.

If your back up contains a copy of that entire folder, simply copy it to the new machine.

(So I don't have to insert the music in iTunes myself?)

Jim-bo, yes that is correct.

If you just want to re-create one playlist you can export just that playlist as Matthew suggests. However, if you copy the entire iTunes folder you will get all playlists as well as play counts and ratings.

Ok so I have my new laptop, I was able to recover 2 iTunes maps from my old one:

- One was in Program Files section with all the installation files and shizzle

- One was in my personal map (on desktop) with Library maps and stuff

My question now, do I install iTunes myself and then replace the folder with the library stuff with the one I have, or do I need the other folder too?

Cheers

Correct. Don't worry about the old program files. They will get recreated when you install the program. Get the latest version of iTunes hereand install it on the new machine. Then put in your own library files.
