error 1004

Can this be any more frustrating? I have done EVERYTHING that has been suggested by Apple's site and those on discussion groups. Apple will not give any specific answers unless you pay for the support. $400 for an IPOD and you must PAY for support. Anyway, I am all of a sudden not able to update apps nor purchase from ITUNES(all of my credit card info is up to date and accurate). I have restored , uninstalled, re-installed etc and nothing has changed.

The error I am receiving is 1004. I have even allowed ports 80 and 443 to get thru firewall(as suggested on Apple's site). Still does not work.

The only thing different about the last time I was able to update apps and purchase was prior to installing IE8. I have had NO problems with IE8 and every other program in my computer works fine. I doubt very much IE8 has anything to do with this 1004 error. I have noticed that there are literally scores of others that are experiencing the same exact problem. But, since I purchased this IPOD for around $400(with tax), I really do not want to PAY for support.

So, I am asking..does ANYONE have a fix for this error? I mean one that someone has tried and works.

Sincerely,

Melissa

I couldn't agree more. THe sticker price on this should at least include support for something that ultimately makes THEM money. It is a bit like paying your band AND the vendor for using your credit card to buy something. The audacity.

I too am having the exact same problem. My IT suggested my macs may have viruses. I download a virus app on a hard wired laptop no problem. I try to do it on my iPad which I have done over the same wireless network before with no problem and all of a sudden I get the ERROR 1004. This is Apple's problem and they should get a fix out ASAP.

Real simple fix. TURN YOUR DEVICE COMPLETELY OFF. Don't be messing with settings or trying to add fixes especially if you don't know what you are doing. I just had 1004 happen on 2 ipad 2's. I am a PC guru but not real familiar with the Apple platforms yet. One thing I learned over the years is reboot, restart or shut down completely. 99% of the time problems get resolved. In the case of the IPad and probably the IPhone you need to just shut it down. I don't care how stable the O/S is memory fills up with junk and conflicts occur. So reboot, restart or shut down. :)

Who's talking about a virus. The Device dynamic memory never clears out completely and eventually residual junks created internal conflicts. Periodically you just have to completely shut the device down. I see odd problems on apples, androids, windows. The more sophisticated the greater the propensity for junk to build up. Btw I am not convinced applesare immune to viruses. Now that the apple market has expanded so greatly the possibility of the deviants to write vicious software now has increased.

I was traveling this week and brought my iPad 1 with me. I used a hotel's wi-fi to do updates from iTunes and all was okay. Got back home today and tried to update from iTunes via my home's wifi and received the 1004 error. I turned it off, turned it back on again and still received the 1004 error. I decided to leave it off for about an hour....turned it back on again and I was able to do all my updates! So, no adjustments to the settings and it worked!
