How to setup a Proxy server
Hi all,
I have an airpot extreme router and I want to setup a proxy server to navigate Internet. I don't see any possible setup in the menus. Is it possible to do it?
Thank you

There are a number of different types of proxy servers. The AirPort, like most Internet routers, perform as a very basic tunneling proxy or gateway by providing NAT services.
What are you trying to use a proxy server for? Are you planning on setting up a dedicated proxy server device or use a router for some proxy functions like monitoring or scanning traffic inbound/outbound of your network?
Thank you for the reply. I want to use a proxy server to change the IP address using a VPN. I have a server provided by Overplay VPN (http://www.overplay.net) which is a paid service. They provide a list of proxy server. Specifically, I want to use the server: vpn-us-east.overplay.net, but I don see where to set up this. Would I find something under NAT services?
To access the OverPlay VPN server from your Mac, you would need to download & install their OS X-compatible VPN client. Your AirPort is a VPN-passthrough device so no configuration settings would be required.
Hi, sorry I wasn't clear enough. I do have the client downloaded in my macs. What I want is to be able to use the service with mi iPad, so I figured it could be a way to configure the proxy server in my Airport Extreme so any device in the network (iPad, iPod touch, iPhone) could benefit from the proxy connection.
Sorry, but no. As I mentioned earlier, the AirPort Extreme is a VPN passthrough device. There is no way to configure a VPN client via the AirPort Utility. Possibly OverPlay will develop an iPad app at a later date.
Thank you for your help Tesserax. I'm clear...
I know this post is crazy old but there is a way to do this. I do this all the time to share my VPN connection to test mobile devices for work on staging platforms that you need VPN auth for. Here are some instructions: http://rodrigo.sharpcube.com/2010/06/20/using-and-sharing-a-vpn-connection-on-yo ur-mac/
You might want to consider moving that to another discussion so other users might see it. Unfortunately, you can't make it a User Tip (it would have made a good user tip).
