Time Machine delete my files as I was backing up!

Hello,

Using MBP v7,1 13-inch, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB hard drive

Snow Leopard v10.6.7

Backup drive is

User uploaded fileMy Book Studio 2 TB External hard drive - 800Mbps(FireWire800)/

Problem:

Time Machine deleted files that were changed in the last cycle as I was backing up

Frequency:

Never happened before, first time

Repro:

1. The previous day, I have install XCode and some other applications and made changes to my database in Bookends (a reference management and bibliography software)

2. Plug My Book Studio (MBS) to the power source and plug in the FireWire 800 cable to the MBP

3. I left for dinner and let Time Machine on

4. This morning, when I open Bookends, it wouldn't open my bibliography. Weird I thought, so I open the database location via User/Document/Bookends/Database and the entire folder is empty!

Changes that I made before* I plug MBS in was all deleted!

Note: The MBS is about 40% full at the time and Time Machine was working correctly before

I really need help,

Thanks

Tony

Because those files were previously inside my Home folder and correspondence to a bibliography program which wouldn't open the database, and when I checked my Time Machine and the original folder in which the files are store in, they are not there!

That in no way proves that Time Machine deleted those files. That's not what Time Machine does.

I'd use Disk Utility to do a "verify disk" operation. Also launch the Console utility and search from the time the files were there to the time you noticed them gone for messages that might explain the problem.
