Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

I'm having trouble adding photos to iMovie '11 (same issue when I was on '09).

I start a new project in iMovie and drag a photo over from my desktop. I see the green line and then drop, the photo does not add. I tried using the media tables and dragging events, albums, and individual photos, but the same thing happens. The only thing I can add is video from my events section. Nothing else sticks.

I did have some issues a few months ago with permissions where I lost all my music in itunes because I deleted a file by mistake. I have tried a verify/repair permissions update in disk utility. The iMovie problem still exists. Open to any suggestions.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Brendan - I'm eight months later with the same issue but I solved it for me. It was a permissions issue. This site will give you simple step by step directions to fix permissions that standard disk utility does not. I fixed my permissions and now can add photos to my project. Good luck. http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/15/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion/

I have a new question related to imovie 11 and pictures from iphoto. I am trying to make a slide show, using a photo under the title, another photo with a second title, then various photos, all with transitions. It's all set up and you can see the correct photos in the timeline, but when you play from the beginning, only the first photo shows throught the whole thing. THere is a sound track also. If I go to the middle somewhere and play it, that photo shows through the whole rest of the video. So whatever photos starts it off, that's the only photo that shows, the pics never change. I need to get this project done pretty soon! I thought imove was supposed to be so easy, but it is impossible to work with!!!!

ok, this is stupid. The preview doesn't show the movie correctly, but when it's finalized it is all correct. So you cannot be sure it's right until it's finalized. If it's wrong you have to edit again and finalize again. IMovie seems to be for beginners who only want to pop in clips or photos to the templates, and it's really hard to try to "go outside the box" and do anything original. This sort of *****, I think they should have much better documentation so you can be more original with movie making.

Hi

cut this part

if You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)

( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter: chflags nohidden ~/Library

Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

or - do like this.

On the Finder window at the top left of the screen,

Hold down the Option key and clicked on Go.

This allowed You to see the Library folder and select it.

Then keep the Option button pressed down in order to see and select the Library folder.

Once found it, You are able to navigate to the iMovie preferences file and move it to the trash. iMovie then start’s up fine!

Hello,

Found a solution. I had tried everything including creating new account and getting rid of the file suggested which did not help.

Here's what worked.

1) Highlight the photo you have in the project, within the project window itself, that isn't playing properly

2) Right click

3) Select Reveal in Finder

4) Right click on the file name when you see it on the list of files

5) Click Duplicate

6) Drag the new file (duplicated file) into your project

7) Voila, photo now shows up correctly!

8) Worked for me. I hope it will work for you!
