How can I tell if my Intel Based Mac contains a virus.  I'm suspicious of something "foul" due to an email of questionable content being sent from my hotmail account, which I access from my Mac computer.  Thank you in advance for any help/assistance.

IMHO you do NOT have a virus.

So far the only malware that is capable of infecting a Mac are Trojans which you must authorize them to be install.

Your problem with Hotmail is probably due to the fact that your accounts has been hacked. Change password. If problem continues that change to another mail system.
