Slow network connection over DSL

Dear friends,

I have an iMac Intel (iMac 7.1 - Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz) and since the last weekend the network connection don't run over 64kbps/sec. My DSL speed connection is almost 2.3 MB to download.

I reset the DSL modem, reset the computer and call the provider asking about it. Making some tests with my laptop (a MacBook pro) putting the modem cable on it, the speed is ok with 2.23 Mb/sec. So, i think that I have some kind of problem in my iMac NIC.

Someone know any issue about it? Need I to format the machine? Is this a hardware problem or just a software problem?

PS: I don't have any kind of router between the machine and the modem.

Thank you so much for any help
