iMovie: can import HDV from Canon HV40, but not DV...

Hi all,

Doing this project for a close friend. With HDV tapes, "import from Camera" works great with the Canon Vixia HV40.

But many of the tapes show "DV", not "HDV" when played, and for these, import does not work.

iMovie "sees" the camera and can still control play of the tape (rewind, play, etc.). But "import from camera" fails, in both automatic and manual modes. Just get a blank blue screen, and the camera plays on, but nothing actually gets imported.

Suggestions would be very helpful!
